Very, very big weeks ahead at Mont Orford, just for you! Gondola echoes two weeks in a row, you ask? Yes, we love spoiling you...
In fact, we have so many things in store for you at the Mont Orford ski centre during the next couple of weekends and Spring Break, we felt we should tell you ahead of time so you can prepare and avoid missing out on anything.
You most likely know that our neighbours in the south are enjoying their Spring Break this week. Because of their presence, we have prepared special activities for Thursday. We estimate that approximately 500 American guests are enjoying the mountain this week. We invite them to participate in a friendly, late morning race before joining us at the Slalom Pub as of 3:00 p.m. for an après-ski animated by Éric Éthier and his team. Mimi Papillon, a makeup artist, will also be present. The day will end with a torchlit descent at 5:30 p.m. On Friday afternoon, it will be Carlo Nino Fabi's turn to warm up the already boisterous atmosphere at the Slalom Pub.
Saturday, February 20th, will be a day for freeriders and their admirers. In addition to the D-Jam 2010, a friendly freeski event will be held in the limited access Snow Park, at the bottom of Mont Giroux North. Prizes totalling $10 000, offered by our various partners, will be given away. The makers of Armada skis and Salomon will also be on site offering a demo of their boards. Event organizers are announcing ?guaranteed fun?. Join us and we'll make sure they follow through!
Along the same line, having fun that is, an enormous inflatable mattress, called a Big Air Bag, will be erected in the Junior Snow Park. Why? For throwing oneself on it from high in the air of course! Anyone having signed a waver (a parent must sign for a minor) can become a freerider for the day! Dad, Mom, this is the perfect occasion to earn your offspring's admiration by showing them exactly what you are capable of...
The Tournée Glisse à l'os de CKOI-FM will also be present at the Mont Orford ski centre on Saturday. 10 pairs of Blizzard skis and a Riviera Maya trip will be drawn among participants. The action will transfer over to the Slalom Pub at the end of the day for two hours of high octane animation.
Finally, don't miss the Journée Ingénieurs sans Frontières. Students from the Université de Sherbrooke will set up a tent to heighten public awareness about the importance of purchasing fair trade products. Free coffee, hot chocolate, and chocolate sampling are on the menu.
End of February-early March Spring Break: let nature guide you!
Are you worried we will have used all our resources during the February 20th-21st weekend? You know us better than that! Rest assured. We have plenty of projects and activities in store for you during Spring Break and the weekends of February 27th and 28th, and March 6th and 7th.
First of all, Mont Orford will welcome two K2 Provincial Championships giant slalom events on February 25th and 26th, featuring the season's 13 and 14 year old Quebec racers. Top skiers will represent the province at the National Championships. Races will be held in the Trois-Ruisseaux, one of the nicest giant slalom runs in Quebec according to many specialists.
On Saturday, February 27th, The Quebec Ski Area Association will be at Mont Orford for its safety campaign. The association promotes wearing a helmet and the mountain code of conduct. A polling booth will be available on site for anyone interested in recording a short video about the importance of wearing a helmet.
The Sunshine Band will throw the après-ski party at the Slalom Pub on Friday and Saturday.
The following weekend, March 6th and 7th, will go down in history as one of the busiest ones of the 2009-2010 season with, among others, music by the Bad Boys at the Slalom Pub on Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th.
We will make room for the Golden Crown OFR in the Mont Orford limited access Snow Park for aerial tricks. The freeride big air and rail competition will be open to snowboarders on Saturday and skiers on Sunday.
The Tournée BMW will also make a hard to miss stop at Mont Orford for both days. Of course, the BMW Master's Ski Series comes with two giant slalom events open to all intermediate and advanced skiers who are 14 years of age or older. Registration costs $20 per race. A more accessible course will also be offered free of charge. As a bonus, with a valid driver's license you may test drive a BMW or Mini Cooper.
So you think that's all? No way! CBC and the Igloo Fest will be present on Saturday for a fun-filled day including a DJ. For the occasion, the television show Bande à part will be broadcasted directly from Mont Orford between 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m.
We mustn't forget skiing and snowboarding at the Mont Orford ski centre. Take advantage of the Internet era and serious savings by purchasing your lift tickets online. 3 mountains, 4 slopes, 61 trails and glades, now that's something!
Do not forget that your season pass or daily lift ticket entitles you to interesting discounts at over 25 retailers and businesses in the Magog region.
Why not take advantage of your time among us during Spring Break to enjoy cross-country skiing or snowshoeing at the Parc National du Mont Orford, relax at the Nordic Station Spa, Bolton Falls Spa, and Chéribourg after a day on the slopes, or skate alongside the majestic Lake Memphremagog in Magog?
We look forward to seeing you at the Mont Orford ski centre, where you ski like nowhere else!
