From the mouth of our snow cannons!
Yes, there was heavy rain on Monday and the water did somewhat damage our skiable terrain. However, you haven't heard the last of the Mont Orford ski centre. Its teams are ready to get down to business and make new snow as soon as temperatures will allow it.

As Brigitte Marchand, general manager of the Mont Orford ski centre and president of the Quebec Ski Area Association says, 'In the ski industry and at Mont Orford, we are used to dealing with spells of milder weather in January. We know how to overcome their drawbacks.'

'Our mechanical snowmaking capacities will allow us to make the snow we will need to offer our customers the best ski and snowboard weekend possible. The season is still young,' added Ms. Marchand.

We must expect nothing less than a manmade snowstorm this weekend at Mont Orford. 'We will use every window of opportunity available during the next few days to put our snowmaking artillery to work,' promises Ms. Marchand.

In the present circumstances, it is probable that there will be snowmaking on certain trails during the ski centre's regular hours of operation. Certain trails may have to be closed temporarily to maximize our teams' efforts.

'Making snow during the day can cause certain disadvantages but we are convinced that our customers will understand. After all, our goal is to offer optimal snow conditions as quickly as possible and we are launching our best snowmaking offensive to succeed,' declared Brigitte Marchand.

Keep in mind that temperatures of -5°C or less and a low level of humidity are needed for quality snowmaking to be possible.

The Perseverance Rally

The Mont Orford ski centre is persevering and lending itself once again to the Mont Orford Perseverance Rally which will take place next Sunday, January 31st, 2010. The goal is to fill the chests of the Fondation pour les élèves de la Commission scolaire de la Région de Sherbrooke. The friendly competition is accessible to all and calls on team spirit, agility, problem solving and, of course, perseverance. It will pit teams of five persons against each other in an event which unites skiing, snowboarding, and the Arbraska course. The ski centre will provide its facilities and logistical support for the fundraiser. It will also delegate a team of five participants.

Mont Orford on television

The television show Les Plaisirs de l'hiver was filming at Mont Orford on January 13th and 14th. You may watch the end result on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., at 8:00 a.m. on January 31st and at 8:00 a.m. on February 3rd on Canal Vox. Lloyd Langlois, Sara-Maude Boucher, and Roger Laroche, our local stars and Mont Orford enthusiasts shared their love of the mountain with the cameras. A must-see show!

A sit-ski at Mont Orford

A sit-ski is now available at the Mont Orford ski centre for persons with physical limitations. If a grandfather would like to see his grandchildren in action on the mountain, it's possible. If a handicapped person is longing for the intoxication going down our slopes provides, no problem. Driven by two certified guides, Johanne Bolduc and Marc Charbonneau, the sit-ski may be reserved for two hours for $49. This price includes a lift ticket for an accompanying adult! Please note that only the north and east Giroux lifts can accommodate the sit-ski.

Have a good weekend at Mont Orford!
