To your boards, citizens!
In just a few weeks, you will satisfy your passion for skiing and snowboarding on your favourite mountain. The Mont Orford snow coverage teams are already in their starting blocks, ready, waiting for Mother Nature to sprinkle white gold onto the ski centre?s runs.
Mont Orford began its 2008-2009 season on December 5th and its 2007-2008 season on November 30th. If the past is any indication of the future, the long awaited first turns are imminent. As was the case in previous years, the link consisting of the Magog and Jean-Davignon runs on Mont Giroux will be the first to be showered with the attention of our snowmaking experts. The Trois-Ruisseaux run, on the highest of the ski centre?s three summits, Mont Orford, at 850 meters, will be next in line. From there, with a little help from winter clouds, expect an avalanche. Are you ready?
While you were playing golf, riding your bike, and dreaming of skiing this summer, the ski centre?s staff was actively preparing the new ski and snowboard season. The clearing and cutting of trees continued and all glades have been given a facelift. Over 120 new signs have been set up throughout the 245.5 acres of skiable terrain. The lifts have been inspected and meticulously cared for while ourfleet of grooming equipment (BR) has been put through intensive care in our mechanical workshop.
Six new, very large signs have been erected to display our trail map in various strategic locations. Three of these signs are located at the base of the mountain, offering a general overview of the ski centre?s 61 runs and glades while the other three sit at the summits of Mont Orford, Mont Giroux, and Mont Alfred-Desrochers, providing specific information about each of the mountains.
Season passes
The sale of season passes has progressed well since last spring and the number of season passes sold exceeds last year?s sales. Better yet, sales are greater than what was budgeted. This success is worth mentioning since the interest for this type of product normally decreases after a poor snow season like we faced in 2008-2009. Mont Orford management thanks you for your fidelity and the entire staff intends to prove that we are worthy of your trust. A 10% discount on season passes is available until December 7th, tell your friends.
In search of ambassadors
Since Mont Orford is always looking for ways to improve its customer service, free ambassador services will be offered throughout the 2009-2010 season. Who better than a Mont Orford adept to guide new visitors and make them feel at home quickly? Interested parties can apply by contacting Louise Faucher by email atlfaucher@orford.com. A wide range of advantages await the lucky candidates who are chosen.
For our American friends
American skiers were apprehensive about having to present a passport to come ski with us. Rest assured. Americans travelling by land must only present the usual identification cards to cross the border. For this reason, we will surely have the privilege of seeing a great number of our southern neighbours, we hope, on the slopes during the upcoming winter holidays. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5082-eng.html
New at the Snow school
The Mont Orford Snow school has a new steersman. Several of the snow school?s customers already know Luc Chapdelaine. He is only 48 years old but if you ask him about the old pictures displayed in the Slalom Pub, you will quickly realize he knows the mountain and its history inside out. Julien Marchand, who is a level IV instructor with the Canadian Ski Instructors? Alliance, will act as technical director. The number of registrations for the Snow school has also increased for the 2009-2010 season. The Snow school?s 140 instructors will be very busy in the upcoming months.
Rentals boutique
Over the past three years, the boutique completely replenished its stock and the equipment is currently being tuned. Another new addition this year is a plasma screen sponsored by Rossignol. This screen will allow for continuous presentation of ski and snowboard videos to make the short wait for equipment enjoyable.
The return of Ski Vélo Vincent Renaud
The Ski Vélo Vincent Renaud boutique will once again be present on the ski centre?s esplanade this season. Cutting edge equipment and clothing as well as a tuning workshop for skis and snowboards will continue to be offered at more than competitive prices, right at the bottom of the slopes.
